Well, I'll start giving you a bit of my own work again. I started out as a drummer in a punk band in 1979, played in all kinds of bands for many years. Around 1986 I got myself a 4 track cassette recorder and one of those first casio sample keyboards.... Then I moved to Indonesia in 1996 and I started making music, all sample based with Fruity Loops, working with lots of rappers and musicians in and out of Indonesia. Lately I've been producing stuff for rapper Maniak aka Wicked Leprekaun from Spokane, Washington State....

One of the great wayang players from the 50's, 60's and 70's was R. Barnas Sumantri from Jakarta. Here's a double album from him with singing by R. Dedeh Kurniasih and music by Seni Sunda Daya Guna Tumaritis. This album was recorded In Salinan in 1972 and in Jakarta in 1972....

Here's a 50's jazz album from the Nick Mamahit Trio with Nick Mamahit playing piano, Jim Espehana playing bass and Bart Risakotta playing the drums....
Now, here's an interesting one. Nationalistic and patriotic songs and songs that praise the ideology of Indonesia's first president Sukarno and I'm wondering if this record was banned or not during the Suharto era. Take for example the song Nasakom Bersatu, Nasakom is an acronym for Nasionalis, Agama & Komunis (nationalism, religion, communism)which was Sukarno's ideology next to pancalisa....
You can read a bit about that here:
Not sure when this one came out, I'm guessing end of the 50's, very early 60's....
I was corresponding with a visitor from this blog, Steven, and he wrote this to me:
The songs Re-So-Pim (Revolusi, Socialisme, Pimpinan Nasional) and Nasakom Bersatu were definitely banned and the writer of the songs Subranto K Atmodjo spent time on the prison island Buru. He had also written the PKI’s theme song Pujaan Kepada Partai. I have no idea if that last song was ever recorded; tell me if you ever find it! Atmodjo later converted to Christianity and wrote a number of spiritual songs which were allowed to be recorded. (Thanks Steven for the information!!!)
Here's an album from Group Memory which was the old band from Jajat Paramour who later on became quiet a big dangdut star, nice album, bit of a psych-pop affair...
A while ago somebody was asking if I had the Qasidah Modern Volume 2 album from The Fantastique Group, well, I've got it now and here it is....

Here's another band that Ron Reeves from Warogus played in, Geng Gong with Sawung Jabo, Reza Achman and Kim Sanders. They play world-fusion incorporating many styles, music from Indonesia, Bulgaria, Australia, Turkey, all mixed up. I've seen them live a bunch of times and each concert was just amazing and this is a great, great album and I can really recommend it....
Warogus was formed in 1993 to explore the possibilities of kendang Sunda, the drum of the West Javanese gamelan orchestra. Wahyu Roche, Agus Super and Ron Reeves all play kendang, but all three are also very versatile musicians, between them playing a wide range of wind, string, and percussion instruments, as well as singing.
Here's an album from Indonesian Jazz giant guitar player Jack Lemmers (later known as Jack Lesmana). Not sure when this came out but I would say end of the 50's, very early 60's....
Here's another great Bollywood movie-score from R. D. Burman that came out in 1071, lyrics by Majrooh and singing by Asha Bhosle, Rahul Dev Burman, Mohd. Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar....
Incredible album from R. D. Burman with lyrics by Anand Bashi, singing by Asha Boshle, Kishore Kumar and Amit Kumar. This album came out in 1979 and what an incredible album this is!!!
